Home Renovation PART ONE!

The time has come... we have been in our much loved (and lived in) house for almost 10 years now and it is screaming for some TLC.  The 10 year old builders grade carpet, in particular, is SCREAMING.  Handsome Hubby and I finally sucked it up and are having new floors installed beginning tomorrow... I will be housebound for 3 days while the EZ Floors guys work their magic.
We are having hand scraped wood put on the staircase and in the formal living room and dining room.  We currently have slate in the foyer, kitchen, family room, breakfast room, utility and guest bath... that's all staying because we LOVE the slate!  Everywhere else is getting NEW (WOO HOO) frieze carpet.  Yes, HH has already made more than one crack about having to get a 2nd and 3rd job... I think he would look awfully cute as a Walmart greeter.
Today we have to take all of the lamps, candles, and general tchotchkes off the furniture to get ready for the wood floors to be installed.  The armoire and buffet are LOADED with Christmas, china and other "stuff" that has to come out.  Nothing like a little forced spring cleaning...
OH THE JOY.

Despite the hassle, change is good... I don't want to be that old lady that decorated her house in 1991 and never changed out the centerpiece EVER again.  You know what I'm talking about... so, there are some goodies coming out of these rooms that will head straight to my local Goodwill for someone else to hopefully enjoy.

I cannot WAIT to see the wood on this staircase... visions of Dear Daughter in a few years posing right here in her prom dress.  Just hoping I don't break my neck coming down these once they are covered in beautiful new wood... head first into the slate would NOT be pretty.  Stay tuned for our progress, and please pray I don't lose my mind or break any bones in the process...

Oooo, those slate floors look nice. Will have to show those off to hubby. Wood will look great up against that. We ended up putting a stair runner on our staircase after we refinished the wood so the toddler and the poodle wouldn't fall (more so the dog as she tends to speed down the steps). Stay sane and know it's going to look so nice when it's done!

What fun!! Redecorating and recycling all at the same time. Those visions of prom night will come true before you know it!

Just a little warning about the installation of wood---You will be dusting your house for weeks, even though they saw alot of the wood outside some of it they did inside for our house hence the fine wood dust. Make sure you change your AC filters when the floors are done. At least you have a pool you can sit next to while they take over your house ;)

It will be so worth it. I love that staircase and just one question - can I follow you to Goodwill? My DH once brought home a wicker bookcase and round wicker end table that somewhere left by the curb in perfect condition, ever since then I drive with one eye on the road and the other scouting the curbs LOL.

Wanted to thank you for stopping by WynnieBee and joining in on the hop -following you back on Twitter and Etsy - haven't found your GFC but when I do I'm so there too : D

Have a wonderful week ❤

Home renovation, huh? When was the last my house underwent one? But I understand why you're feeling excited about it. Giving your house a new look has a refreshing feeling to it.

That's right. You've gotta give your place some TLC every now and then, or else the signs of neglect will be evidently shown. Also, if those pics depict how it looks before renovation, I can just imagine how good it will look once it's done.

You have a lovely furniture! A house renovation is definitely an exciting phase for homeowners. Your house truly deserves a makeover after 10 years of living there. I only think that it's about time to give your house a new look. A curved staircase is always dramatic, perfect match for the new slate floors, I wish you would keep it. Cheers!
