Pointe shoes are ready... |
Over the past week I have been to no less than 10 stores looking for one stinking package of these...
Why on earth am I searching for hair nets, you ask? No, I have not been hired to cook bad cafeteria food... Dear Daughter has her dance recital this weekend. Since she was three years old I have made the annual trek to Walgreen's to purchase a package of these very hair nets because they are required to wrap their perfectly coiffed buns to keep the hair from popping out during their dance. I was not a dancer, so this was all new to me... but we receive a 4 page packet of detailed hair, make-up and costume instructions and being the rule follower I am, I am not about to argue.
So, off I go to get my stash of required recital make-up and accoutrements when I discover Walgreen's is no longer carrying the hair nets... nor is Target, or CVS, or Kroger or even WALMART. What is the world coming to if Walmart is not stocking hair nets, for grief's sake? The amount of stress, time and gas I have spent on the quest for one stinking 59 cent hair net... well... we won't go there. And yes, Sally Beauty Supply has them, but they are some terrible off-brand and just DO NOT work... we've tried.
Just as I was about to get online and PAY for EXPEDITED SHIPPING to order them last night I was getting ready for bed and opened one of my vanity drawers to find this staring back at me...

A FLOOD of memories came washing over me!! Pointe shoes, the perfect bun, make up for the recital- what an ordeal it all was!!! I remember breaking in new toe shoes (we always called them "toe shoes"), actually folding them back and forth to crack the hard soles to make them flexible enough. Then the anxiety dreams about not having all the costume parts, being in the wrong dance, etc. To this day my anxiety dreams consist of not being prepared for a dance recital. We never used the hairnets, though- just a million bobby pins and gallons of aqua net!
Now I realize why we kept our little one's hair short back then! (She had a "Dorothy Hamill" cut for years. No net required!) We did, however, find she played softball better than she danced so we only had few recitals along the way. Those memories are full of hilarity, though! Let's just say, she wasn't graceful.
Oh, I cracked up laughing at the end:):)
What a relief! LOL too funny! My daughter took dance for a few years.. gotta love the pre-recital check list! :)
Wow! They don't carry them??? I used to be a dancer, and we even had to wear them in class, not just for performances!

Oh that is too funny! Isn't it always the way that something you need happens to be sitting in a drawer in your house somewhere. Were you more annoyed or relieved? :)
Big sigh! I bet you were so relieved!
My girls were into performing arts, song, and dance. Having costumes ready, and make-up on for 3 girls on performance nights was a real stresser.
I feel for you!
How odd that everyone stopped carrying the hair nets!! So glad you found one, at home all along, no less. I think I would have been relieved to find it, but seriously put out for all the running around before hand! :) Hope the recital is a big success for your daughter.
I think the Hair Net Fairy put them in my drawer... I have been sick and someone must have been taking pity on me!
