This really is not a movie blog, but since I live in Haitis Houston, it has been too friggin' hot to do anything else so off to the movies we go...
I'm sure you are thinking we saw THAT movie, the one with the wizards flying around or some such things... but no, we are not Harry hounds at my house. However, we did happen to be at the theater the day of that crazy premiere and ran into some friends waiting to get a seat...
Mind you, I snapped this pic at 5:30 p.m. and the movie started at MIDNIGHT... and they ALREADY HAD TICKETS, cute girls just wanted to make sure they got great seats. Ok, how bad a seat could you have in the Cinemark? It's not as if it were showing at the Superdome... anyhoo... pretty much every girl I know over the age of 13 was sitting on the floor of that lobby for HOURS waiting for their date with Harry and I'm thinking Sweet Son would have been wise to get a quick case of Potter fever... just sayin'.
Back to OUR movie... this one has been in the theaters for awhile now, so if you don't get to the movies soon you may have to wait for it to come out on DVD.
I had NO CLUE what this movie was about before we went... Dear Daughter asked me on the way if it was scary. OH NO, HONEY... I DON'T THINK SO. Ooops. Five minutes in she mouthed, "I hate this movie" and spent the rest of it with her head buried in my lap. Double ooops.
Regardless, Sweet Son and I thoroughly enjoyed this one... the young actors were awesome and Kyle Chandler (STILL crying from the series finale of "Friday Night Lights") as the dad just made it even better. Steven Spielberg doing what he does best... humor, romance, special effects, and drama all rolled up in one. And how could I not LOVE a movie where a bunch of pre-teen geeks break into a rousing rendition of "My Sharona"? MOST EXCELLENT.
Only complaint? There were a few choice words I would rather they had left out... of course, as I'm commenting on my disdain for a few of the word choices, Dear Daughter pipes up, "it's OK mama, kids say those words at school all the time"... NICE, well now I feel SO much better.
Oh, and be sure to watch all the way to the end of the credits...
you'll be sorry if you don't.

I get sleepy by 9 o'clock, so I could never of stayed up for a midnight showing. I plan on seeing Super 8 soon - glad you thought it was worthwhile!
I was one of those HP-crazies hehe.. My best friend and I went to the midnight showing. We reserved tickets not for good seats (I agree.. there's not really a BAD seat in a movie theater, lol) but for seats at all.. the line was crazy! With reserved seats though, we were able to waltz in whenever we wanted, and didn't have to sit there all night, which was awesome. :)
Super 8.. I've heard of it, but don't know what it's about.. good to hear you thought it was worth seeing! Maybe I'll have to check it out with one of my cousins.

I'm not a big fan of Harry Potter but my brother is. And..now...I've become the HP fan too! I can't wait to see it on cinema but gosh, there's horrible policy towards foreign movie in Indonesia nowadays. I just hope I can watch it still in my city.

I was one of those people sitting in the lobby way early. Although, we didn't go until around 9pm, so we weren't THAT bad. :-)
Saw Super 8 a few weeks ago, too. Loved it! You might want to check out Cloverfield, too.
Super 8 looks fab - and pre-teen geek's singing My Sharona - YES! That is awesome. :)
I have to laugh at those cute girls sitting there for hours. I don't get it but they probably had a great time!
Oh wasn't Friday Night Lights good??? I love Kyle Chandler! DO you remember him in that 40's show that was on for a bit - sigh. I am a Harry potter freak too I read the books before my kids : P
The Harry Potter story/photos was hilarious! I am not a Harry Potter nut either, but it's amazing at how hard core the fans are!
I want to see Super 8 also. I heard it was a great movie.
So it was just a coincidence that I was in Paris and Harry Potter was actually coming out 2 days before the rest of the world. Pretty awesome and of course I got tickets and saw it.
Those girls look as cute and happy as can be! Were any dressed up? At my local theatre, as I walked right in to the 6:30 pm showing of HP, kids were lined up outside waiting for the 10 pm show. Does that make any sense?
